Aloha! Hi, I'm Mary Love. I'm an interpreter here on the Big Island of Hawai'i. Many years ago, I worked in Colorado at the Colorado School for the Deaf and picked up more and more ASL until I became proficient. The Deaf community was amazingly supportive, and I eventually became a nationally certified interpreter. Later, I was a part of setting up an agency for interpreter referral that had 75 interpreters in the business. It was a wonderful experience at that time. Later, I divorced and moved to Hawai'i in 2002. I first lived on O'ahu, doing community work in the areas of mental health, medical, legal, educational, performing arts, and various settings, which I greatly enjoyed. Later, I moved to the Big Island of Hawai'i in 2014. During that time, the volcanic eruption was headed towards the village of Pahoa. That eruption lasted eight months, then stopped suddenly to our great relief. In 2018, a great and destructive volcanic eruption occurred, and I worked interpreting community meetings so the Deaf community had access to volcano updates. We also had many hurricane warnings, tsunami alerts, and evacuation notices for the general public safety. Nowadays, I'm partly retired, enjoying that as well as working part-time. I'm still available for interpreting, but I'm so honored. Looking back on my interpreting career, it's been so enjoyable, and I'm forever grateful to the Deaf communities who have assisted and supported me to be my best. So here I am, still available part-time, so now you know more about me. Mahalo and aloha!
