Aloha, my name is D-A-N-O. My name sign is signed by using an open-B handshape, tapping the forehead twice. I am hard-of-hearing and communicate in both English and American Sign Language, as well as some other languages.
I earned my degree in American Sign Language and Interpreting from an interpreter training program in Southern California. Currently, I am in my final year at the University of Hawai’i at Hilo, earning a bachelor's degree in linguistics.
We moved to the east side of Hawaii Island during the Lower East Rift Zone eruption of the Kilauea volcano during the summer of 2018. The two of us both jumped right into the interpreting experience here on the Big Island and we had a helpful support network consisting of local interpreters, who have since either partially retired or moved off island.
My wife and I have collectively been interpreting for over 50 years and have dived head-first into both personal and professional communities here on The Big Island. I am eager to assist you with any questions you may have about ASL and interpreting and am happy to put you in touch with a Deaf advocate who can explain the importance of hiring certified and professional sign language interpreters.
Mahalo!
